Celebrations

I’m celebrating; won’t you join me? For the third year in a row, I’ve completed a blog post every day for the month of November – mission accomplished! As a reminder, when I first began blogging, it was November 2011 in conjunction with National Novel Writing Month. Though I did not complete a 50,000 word novel, per the “rules” of NaNoWriMo, I did create my own construct – to post every day on a networking-relevant topic, approximately a 500 word limit per piece – and I abided by it. Popping a bottle of sparkling apple cider as we speak!

Let’s focus for a moment, though, on the celebratory aspect of this particular article. It’s been said that many people, especially those in high stress, visible jobs, do not take time to celebrate. They don’t take time to acknowledge their and their teammates’ accomplishments – however big or small.

I know, I know… you’re busy. You have things to do, people to see, places to go. But, hey, take just a moment to stop and give yourself a pat on the back! Have the presence of mind to recognize your achievements – then get back to work!

Additionally, be sure to enjoy your celebration with others – others who helped to carry the ball over the finish line… others who supported your efforts to get it done… others who help to champion this project and every other project on which you work. What a great way to connect with people!

Your celebration may include a simple note of congratulations, an email even. It could be doughnuts and juice at the team meeting. Perhaps lunch with the group. Even a drink after work would be appreciated. Whatever the case, be sure to mark the occasion with a celebratory something.

There are plenty of occasions to get together for unhappy reasons… why not get together for those grand occasions – the happy reasons that pull us together as humans. I’m celebrating tonight – you’re all invited! I am grateful to each of you for your support and enthusiasm and wonderful comments and ideas over the past 30 days… and the days that came before and those yet to come.

Indeed, I have a lot more work to do… more posts to write, more books to compile, more workshops to facilitate. Hardly time to take time, right? Wait. Let’s celebrate!

Cheers!

  1. Alana,

Keep up the good thoughts. An important part of teamwork is acknowledging the team members who contribute to the success of the team.
