Do Something Amazing

Hello and Happy New Year!  I know… I know… I’m late in my New Year greetings, but they are no less heartfelt.  I’m also kind of beating myself up since I went from writing every day during the month of November to writing no days during the month of December.  And, the HNY message I intended to put out on January 1 is now ten days late.  New Year’s Resolution #1:  Seek forgiveness.  New Year’s Resolution #2:  Stop beating myself up for dumb stuff.

The true purpose of today’s post is really to help prop us all up for 2019.  I, for one, found 2018 to be a tough year.  The tone and quality of discourse in our world felt so heavy and negative.  I’m truly optimistic that 2019 is a lighter, happier, more positive year.  In fact, allow me to share a bit about my New Year’s Eve/Day experience.

Generally, I find New Year’s Eve to be a bit like amateur night.  As such, I prefer to be with friends, at one of our homes, eating great food, drinking great wine, and simply “hanging out.”  So, as per usual, that is what we did.  It was my husband, Marc, and myself – we were blessed to have our son, Ian, with us – and we all went over to another family’s home where a third couple and their son joined us.  We did what we always do… ate great food, drank great wine… we hung out… we set our annual predictions for the year ahead in motion… we played games… we watched the ball drop in Times Square… we went home.  It was wonderful!  A perfect NYE.

Truth is, I anticipated that I wouldn’t make it past 11pm Central time.  I was wrong.  We were at our friends’ until about 1am, headed home and we were wired!  No sleep for this trio.

So, the three of us got to talking and, wouldn’t you know it?  It was Ian who kicked off the year with his wise-beyond-his-15-years-intellect and positive worldview when he looked at us and said, “Promise me that we will each do something amazing this year!”  Indeed!  Talk about a New Year’s Resolution.  Special thanks to my best buddy for setting the right tone for the 2019.

What if we all committed to doing something AMAZING this year?  What do you envision it will be?  Can you set yourself on a path for success?  What would it take for you to get there?  Here’s what I’m trying:

  1. Write down your goal. Whether big or small, nobody is judging.  Make it amazing for yourself.
  2. Close your eyes and envision success. What does amazing look like for you?  Can you see it?
  3. Gather your advocates. Who can you enlist to support you in your amazing efforts?  Tell them about your dream.  Ask them to help hold you accountable.
  4. Be an advocate. Are you prepared to help someone else do something amazing this year?  Be there.  Tell them you are there for them.
  5. Go get it! You know what to do.  Do something amazing this year.  You’re amazing.

I hope your 2019 is already off to an auspicious start.  If you have a moment, please comment at CoffeeLunchCoffee.com to share your AMAZING plans with the CLC Community.  Wishing you a very happy, healthy, peaceful and prosperous new year.  Make it AMAZING.  Happy Networking!
