Spend Time with People Who Inspire You

On one of the 52 suggestions in her new card deck, “52 Well-Being Snackables,” Dr. Michelle Robin suggests, “Spend Time with People Who Inspire You.”  The galaxy of possibilities may include family, friends, pets (dogs are people, too, right?), wellness professionals, spiritual leaders, and/or co-workers, among others.  The challenge, of course, is to figure out how to spend more time with those who energize, inspire and support us.

When it comes to negative interactions, Dr. Michelle says that we may not always have a choice about being around some people, we can make an effort to limit time with people who zap our energy – as well as how we respond to their behaviors, words and actions.  We can even unfollow, unfriend, or snooze “friends” and pages on social media that do not bring us joy.

On the very positive flip side, make an effort to identify about five people who inspire feelings of hope, optimism, and happiness.  Then, seek to spend time with them.  It doesn’t have to be overwhelming for either of you.  A cup of coffee once a quarter, an occasional email or text message exchange, dinner out on an annual basis.

It’s guaranteed that surrounding yourself with people who inspire you will generate a virtuous cycle of creativity, productivity, efficiency and success.  Now that’s inspired!

Happy Networking!
