Let’s Celebrate!

“Let us do something while we have the chance… At this place, at this moment of time, all mankind is us.”  — The character, Vladimir, in Samuel Beckett’s play “Waiting for Godot”

A personal story… Starting in 2007, upon determining that I wanted to pursue an entrepreneurial career, I began to engage in what I all “intentional networking.”  At the time, I just called it, “figuring out what I want to do professionally.”  Over the next 18 months, hundreds of people heeded my call and said “Yes!” to meeting with me in a networking capacity.  They changed my life.

In 2011, not having been much of a writer in the past (I was, after all, a proud math major, more comfortable with numbers than words), I felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility to share, with anyone who would listen, my process for engaging in meaningful, authentic relationship building through networking.  To do so, I printed off a blank calendar for the month of November, penciled in 30 topics to write about related to networking, and, on the first of month, starting writing.  Each day I posted some tip about connecting with others that I thought would be useful to anyone who wanted to get started with networking.  I did that for 30 days.

Though I thought I would be done with my writing “career” at the end of those 30 days, on day 31, I had one more thing to say.  On day 32, one more thing still.  Then, miraculously, people started writing to me asking me to keep going with my networking commentary.  I did.  Now, there’s a book, a speaking career, a coaching practice and a consultancy… not to mention a five-year old blog… as a result.  I don’t drink coffee, but I’m proud to say Coffee Lunch Coffee is part of my very being!

Celebration Cartoon AlanaFor those who wish, every week during the year, they may access a new blog post at CoffeeLunchCoffee.com on some topic about networking or relationships or people or leadership or entrepreneurship or the like.  And, from November 1-30 each year, I commit myself to blogging every day.  It’s a tradition.

I’m so glad I didn’t wait for someday to come, but, rather, seized the opportunity to create something magical – for myself and for others.  I’m so glad to have met people along the way whose wisdom and insight have changed my thinking and base of knowledge – each year many of them willingly contribute their genius to my November pursuits.  It’s been a privilege to feature them this month and throughout the year.

It’s November 30th.  Thanks to everyone who took time to either contribute a post or to read one, to comment on something they found meaningful or to suggest resources and ideas to others.  I hope you’ve discovered at least one kernel of useful information that you will incorporate into your own life.  If so, please join me for my little celebration.  Happy Anniversary, Coffee Lunch Coffee.  CHEERS!
