I’m sitting here looking at all the “stuff” that is collecting on the floor by my desk. The piles are getting taller and taller. I keep thinking that I should just go through one pile each day until they are all gone. It wouldn’t take much. But, alas, I’m watching the piles pile up.
Now, I open the drawer of my desk. Oh, goodness. What a mess! It would be so easy to pull out the drawer, tidy it up. Probably wouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to clear out. But, no, I just close it back up and think that I will get to it eventually.
It’s just so easy to do nothing. To think about doing something, lamenting the fact that you really ought to take care of business, recognizing that with, just a touch of effort, that item on your checklist could be checked off.
And, so it goes with networking. The time to take ACTION is now – RIGHT NOW! Don’t delay. Do this instead:
- Pick one person with whom you want to connect. Could be someone you already know who you want to re-engage. Could be someone you’d like to get to know.
- Reach out. Send a quick message of introduction or reintroduction. Ask if they would be available to meet up next Thursday at 8am… or another time that works for you.
- Get Together. It’s that simple.
So, what are you waiting for? As for me, I’m off to clean out that drawer. Tomorrow, I’ll attack the piles.
Happy Networking!
