Treat Yourself

Last year, my friend, Mandy, told me about Noom, a New York City-based health and wellness tech startup that uses mobile technology to help people lead healthier lives.  Though intrigued, it took looking at myself for hours each day on Zoom (yep, they rhyme!) to realize that it was exactly what I needed to put a little pep in my step, lose some weight, get fit, and reframe the way I care for myself.  So, a few months ago, I finally invested in myself, downloaded the app, and joined the Noom community.  Essentially, through daily lessons, interaction with a virtual group, support from a coach, and other resources available through the app, a participant can set goals and systematically work to not only achieve those objectives, but adopt and maintain healthy habits.  It’s been life-changing!

Every now and then, Noom surprises its members and incorporates a lesson called “Treat Yourself.”  The words change, but basic premise remains the same; essentially, we are each entitled to a little celebration now and then and we should indulge!  That doesn’t have to mean digging into a rich, fudgy brownie (though, if that’s what you need, go for it!), but rather, doing something special for yourself – something that promotes selfcare, happiness and tranquility.  And, since we often become complacent when we have ready access to too much of a good thing, Noom suggests that these little indulgences should not come too frequently, but just enough to feel really special and meaningful.

The way you engage in this selfcare should be uniquely appealing to you.  If you have some funds tucked away, you might purchase something special for yourself, but it need not cost a dime!  Here are some ideas:

  • Take a bubble bath.
  • Enjoy a cup of tea while visiting with a friend (could be virtually!).
  • Get a massage, facial and/or mani-pedi.
  • Go for a long walk in the park.
  • Sign up for a yoga, pilates, Zumba, or spin class.
  • Cuddle with your kids or play with your pup.
  • Order new ear buds.
  • Binge-watch a new series (my suggestion:  The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix).
  • Dine out at a new restaurant (especially if they have an outdoor patio and heaters!).
  • Relax with a heart-healthy glass of red wine and a piece of dark chocolate after dinner.

As for me, I’ve been working diligently on my healthy lifestyle habits and am proud of my efforts.  To celebrate, I plan to pick out a new pair of sneakers.  How about you?  What will you do to celebrate you?  Have something in mind?  Please visit blog.CoffeeLunchCoffee.com and share your ideas with the CLC Community.

Be sure to treat yourself.  Happy Networking!
