Now Is As Good a Time As Any

“It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready.  I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything.  There is almost no such thing as ready.  There is only now.  And you may as well do it now.  Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.”  –Hugh Laurie

Ferchos RVMeet the Ferchos:  Tiffany, Dawson, Quinten, Franki and Mena (oh, and Summer, the dog).  This beautiful family has just embarked on the implementation of their dream – to travel the country, in an RV, together, living in the moment throughout the journey.

They’ve been planning it for years.  They searched and searched for the right “bus” – and then practiced and practiced and practiced driving it in empty parking lots, on seldom used roads, on trial roadtrips, etc.  The kids said their “goodbyes” to schoolmates and little league teams; the adults identified ways to work from the road.  They rented out their home.  They set sail on Saturday.  As Tiffany said in a Facebook post, “we are off… because you only live once.”

She’s right, you know.  You only live once.  And, when you have an idea in mind, why not jump in, with both feet, eyes as wide open as they can be.  Come what may…

At the family’s sendoff party last week, Dawson remarked, “Somebody asked me last week if I was ready for this adventure.  I responded with a few questions of my own:  Were you ready to get married?  To have kids?  Are we really ever ready for anything?”  Truth is, you’re never going to be totally ready.  You just have to do it.  Sure, a little pre-planning never hurt; but to truly bring the experience to life, you have to do it!

I’m so proud of this darling family.  They are embarking on the opportunity of a lifetime.  Is it ambitious?  You bet it is.  Are there likely to be a few bumps along the way?  Yep.  Are they scared?  Of course.  But, the opportunity to be together, as a family, to experience every moment along the way as they trek across the country is too delicious a prospect to pass up.

Throughout their journey, Tiffany has committed to sharing tokens of the family’s experience with the CLC community as it pertains to building connections across the country.  I can’t wait to live vicariously through them and to not only imagine a few dreams of my own, but, like the Ferchos, to make them come true.  Please join me.  Bon voyage!

  1. Oh my, I’ll be following the Ferchos for sure. I think we might be cut from the same cloth, only they’ll be in an RV and I’ll soon be in a truck 🙂

Thank you for connecting me to them via this post. Regards, Don

  2. Dan – We should connect sometime! Sounds like you might be heading out in a truck. Let us know where you might be – maybe our paths can cross.

Thanks Alana, for writing this fun post on your blog about my family and our great adventure.

Appreciate your love and support and finding that I am using some much of your great advise in “coffee, lunch, coffee” daily while on the road. It’s about people, connections and stories.
See ya down the road my friend!
