In honor of Veterans Day, today’s post is dedicated the men and women (and their families) who have and do serve our country. Thank You for your unfailing commitment and devotion to our great nation!
Many companies and industries are notorious for utilizing a language all their own. They come up countless expressions, abbreviations and acronyms. And, while sometimes it can be frustrating to “outsiders,” the cool thing is everyone in the organization knows the lingo and is part of the discussion.
This certainly holds true for the military which is rife with acronyms and insider expressions. One of my very favorites is “BOGSAT,” introduced to me by my friend, Col. James Tennant (Ret.), which, as he described it to me, is just another expression for “networking and collaboration!”
What does it mean? “Bunch of Guys/Gals Sitting Around Talking.” No agenda required. This isn’t about high military intelligence or covert operations. Rather, it is just a way for people to come together, to get to know one another – sometimes professionally, sometimes socially.
And, people could be anywhere to engage in BOGSAT… in a coffee shop, in a meeting room, over lunch in the cafeteria, in a person’s home, in the park.
This is one of those expressions we should each bring into our vernacular and then utilize. Wouldn’t it be great if we each took the time to calendar a BOGSAT meeting or two each week? So, let’s get to it. That’s an order!
