It’s wonderful to hear about people spending time in their “happy place.” For many children, that happy place is sleep away summer camp with friends from around the world who really “get” them. For some people, that happy place is a specific destination or vacation spot that they adore because it fills them up and makes them feel like their best selves. For others, it’s being surrounded by people who they love, no matter the location, just hanging out, talking, laughing, and having fun. For others still, it’s finding a quiet place to cozy up with a cup of tea and a good book.
I know for myself, my happy place is not always physical. For me, it is anywhere my family is… it’s going for a stroll along the “enchanted forest” walking path in my neighborhood… it’s seeing faces light up with knowledge and understanding during a networking presentation… it’s traveling the world… it’s reconnecting with an old friend.
We should all have at least one happy place. It ought to be somewhere where, indeed we feel like our best selves, with people who we love and who “get” us, engaged in activities that fill us up.
Looking for your happy place? Close your eyes and envision a time of joy. Then, ask yourself these questions:
- Where are you most comfortable?
- Did you have to travel far to get there?
- Who is there?
- What are you doing?
- What are you wearing?
- How’s the weather?
If you can go there in person, make time to do so. If not, capture the picture in your mind’s eye and spend time there when you need recharging. Don’t forget: You are the creator of your happy place!
Happy Place! Happy Networking!
I just came from one of my happy places and this was fun to read and relive the memories and feelings! Love your blog!
