Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Whether or not you’re Irish, today is a day we all get to celebrate, so I’m wishing you the luck of the Irish!
Speaking of luck, I’ve written before about how I believe we make our own luck. And I still believe that. But this year, I want to flip the script and ask a different question: What if, instead of focusing on making our own luck, we focused on being someone else’s lucky charm?
Think about it. Somewhere in your network right now, someone is working hard, preparing, hoping for a break. Maybe it’s a colleague ready for a bigger role. Maybe it’s someone newer to your industry trying to find their footing. Maybe it’s a friend who just needs the right introduction at the right time.
You could be the source of that “lucky” break.
It doesn’t have to be dramatic. Forward a job posting to someone who would be a perfect fit. Make an introduction between two people who should know each other. Recommend someone for a speaking opportunity or a board seat. Share an article and say, “This made me think of you.” These small, generous acts can change the trajectory of someone’s career.
Here’s what I find remarkable: when we focus on being lucky for others, luck has a way of finding its way back to us. Generosity in our professional lives begets generosity. The people we help remember our actions. They pay it forward. And before long, the network we’ve invested in invests right back.
So, as you enjoy your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, ask yourself: Feeling lucky? Who can I share that luck with today? You just might be the four-leaf clover someone has been looking for.
Happy Networking! 🍀

I love this reframe! We often think this way as we mature in our careers, as we think about mentoring, etc. But no matter where someone is in their life journey, than can be a lucky charm for others. I’m going to be thinking about this and looking for more opportunities to share the luck. Thank you for another thoughful, relevant post!
Genius! Again.
