You are doing remarkable things. Does anyone know?
Tip #7, “Do Things and Tell People,” from The Luck Field Manual by The Polymath Investor shares that the more meaningful things we do and the more people we tell about them, the larger our luck surface becomes. Bottom line: Don’t be shy. Don’t embrace false modesty. Instead, do great work, and make sure people know about it.
This is not about bragging. It is about visibility. And there is an important distinction between the two.
Bragging is self-promotional. Sharing is connective. When you tell someone about a project you are working on, a challenge you are navigating, an idea that is exciting you, you are not showing off. You are giving people a way to help you, support you, celebrate with you, collaborate with you, or simply think of you when the right opportunity crosses their path.
So many people do extraordinary work in relative silence. They lead beautifully and never talk about what they are learning. They build meaningful programs and assume word will travel on its own. They develop genuine expertise and wait to be discovered. And sometimes discovery happens. But it is far more likely to happen if you give it some help.
The Polymath Investor says it plainly: Out of sight, out of mind. So be in sight. Write the post. Send the update. Share the milestone. Tell the story. Not because you need validation, but because your work deserves to find the people it is meant to reach.
Show and tell. Proudly shout it from the rooftops.
Happy Networking!
